WE ARE ARTISTS
But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.
Isaiah 64:8
At St John Rigby we believe that every child is an artist and we value Art as an important part of the children’s broad and balanced curriculum. Children will learn that they are uniquely made by God and He gives them each unique talents. Art provides the children with the opportunities to develop and extend skills and an opportunity to express their individual interests, thoughts and ideas. It also provides many enrichment experiences and opportunities.
Art embodies some of the highest forms of human creativity. We aim for our Art lessons to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. The art curriculum will develop children’s critical abilities, as well as an understanding of their own and others’ cultural heritages through the study of a diverse range of artists.
