Supporting Parent and Carer Mental Health and Wellbeing
We recognise that the wellbeing of children is closely linked to the wellbeing of their parents and carers. Family life can be rewarding but also challenging, and looking after your own mental health is an important part of supporting your child. This page is designed to offer information, guidance, and signposting to trusted resources that support parents and carers with their mental health and emotional wellbeing, helping families feel supported, connected, and confident both at home and in partnership with school.
🤝 School-Based Support for Parents/Carers
We believe that strong partnerships between home and school are essential for supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and their families. Below are the key ways we work together to provide support:
Inclusion and Family Support Worker
Our Inclusion and Family Support Worker is here to support both pupils and families. They:
-
Build positive relationships with parents and carers, offering practical advice, emotional support, and guidance on family life.
-
Help families access local services, wellbeing resources, and specialist support when needed.
Our Inclusion and Family Support Worker acts as a bridge between home and school to make sure families feel heard, supported, and connected.
Mental Health Support Team (MHST)
Our school works with the Mental Health Support Team to provide additional emotional wellbeing support. Through this partnership, we can
-
Offer school-based sessions for families who need targeted support with feelings such as anxiety, low mood, or worry.
-
Provide guidance and resources for parents on how to support their child at home.
Parents can be involved in this process and are supported throughout.
Parent workshops and wellbeing sessions
We regularly offer workshops, coffee mornings, and information sessions for parents and carers on topics such as:
-
Understanding and supporting emotional wellbeing
-
Practical strategies for managing behaviour and anxiety
-
Building resilience and positive routines at home
These sessions are designed to equip families with skills and confidence, as well as opportunities for family networking.
Clear Communication and Signposting
We ensure parents and carers are informed about:
-
The school’s whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing
-
Local services and organisations that provide extra support, signposting to external support services
-
Internal support options and who to contact for help
We share this information through newsletters, ClassDojo, emails, our website, and parent events.
